Buttondown is our favorite email platform. It’s the one we use for memberships, text, and personal projects.

We’ve known Justin Duke, Buttondown’s founder, for a couple of years; we met in person at a conference in April of 2023, when I had the chance to do a brief teardown of his app. It went well enough that Justin eventually hired us to redesign Buttondown’s marketing site.

In our first project, we provided a ground-up, mobile-friendly overhaul of Buttondown’s pricing page in greater alignment with Buttondown’s ongoing product development. Then we were hired again to overhaul their home & features pages, involving another ground-up rewrite & numerous usability tweaks.

In the process, we essentially redesigned their whole marketing site. Once the new home page went live, customers loved it, praising its distinctiveness & persuasiveness. On top of that, conversions increased by over 60% in the six months since the redesign was launched. We set records for conversion rate in the process, and worked with illustrator Irene Neyman to improve the masthead even further.

After all was said & done, Justin was so pleased that he took on a retainer with us so we can continue with maintenance work & strategic definition. Justin said:
